City of Wasilla Wastewater Utility The Public Works Department is committed to partnership with the community in the operation of its utilities. As part of this commitment, public meetings are to be held at least annually to provide project updates and a forum for public discussion on the utility. At this meeting there are two project updates planned, specifically: Sludge Management: The City is in the early stages of a project to provide additional aerobic digester capacity for septage processing, as well as a sludge dewatering system to better manage digested septage. Wetland Waste Treatment System (Effluent Discharge) Project: The City is completing permitting for the discharge of treated effluent to City-owned wetlands to provide polishing and disposal of wastewater effluent. Under the proposal, disposal may continue to subsurface infiltration beds. Additionally, the City is seeking to acquire adjacent wetlands from area property owners. The City of Wasilla hopes to clarify project goals and solicit public input on project development. Project team members will be available to answer questions and document public comments.
