HALLOWEEN Safety Tips From the Central Mat-Su Fre Department Halloween is near, here are some Halloween Safety Tips for you& your family: HOME FIRE SAFETY: Keep all exits clear, so nothing blocks escape routes, including decorations. Keep all decorations away from any open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs or heaters. Use battery-powered lights or glow sticks in pumpkins and decorations. If you have a Halloween party, do not allow smoking inside. Check for cigarettes that may not be completely extinguished in areas where people were smoking periodically during the party, and after the party. If your children are going to a Halloween party, have them look for ways out of the home and help them plan how they would get out in an emergency. FIRE SAFETY FOR CHILDREN: .Plan costumes that are bright and reflective - consider adding reflective tape or striping to costumes or treat bags for greater visibility Purchase flame-resistant costumes, wigs and accessories. To prevent tripping, make sure shoes fit. To prevent costumes from catching fire, make sure costumes are not too long .Use battery powered lights or glow sticks in pumpkins and decorations. Provide flashlights and fresh batteries for all children and their chaperones. .Teach children their phone numbers and 911 if they become lost. .Review "Stop, Drop, Cover and Roll" with your children. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE WORKING SMOKE ALARMS IN YOUR HOME. Working smoke alarms alert occupants sooner and allow for more time to escape a fire.
